“Living The Cause” teaching by Pastor Justin

By Caryn, July 21, 2010 7:06 pm

The list of all the causes in the world today (Raising money to cure       cancer, saving the whales, feeding the homeless, giving free shoes to people without shoes, etc. etc. etc.) is endless.  There are so many ways to spend our time, knowledge and money to help others in this crazy world.  This is the whole reason Pastor Elijah and myself started The Good Campaign (www.jointhegoodcampaign.com), because people all over the world are looking for the best ways to help, the greatest causes to get involved with.

What though… is the greatest cause? I believe sharing Jesus with others so that they can go to Heaven when they die is the greatest Cause.  This is Cause number 1.

All other causes in the world are for temporary benefit, but this cause is for eternity.  Don’t hear me wrong…most every cause is great and has benefit and my goal would never be to tell someone that their cause is meaningless, but The Cause, with The MOST Benefit is telling others about the forgiveness of Jesus!!!

Caryn’s SOAK

By Caryn, April 22, 2010 9:53 am

Matthew 9:37-38

S. Then he said to the disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into the harvest field.”

O. THE Cause – working for God’s Kingdom, sharing the Gospel with others – needs people. Without workers, what impact will it make? Hearts are prepared but the workers need to step up and harvest.

A. I struggle with being a worker. I want to serve God with my whole heart and at the same time shrink back in fear and apathy. I so want my unsaved friends to know God but I don’t want to disturb the status quo. I say that I’m not afraid of our friendship changing or ending, but I think I must be. I am so concerned about being a good friend and welcoming that sometimes I let things settle into complacency. How do I break this? I can’t live this way and I definitely can’t live for THE Cause this way.

K. God, please identify the things I need to change so that I am engaged in your cause. I want to be one of the workers called to your harvest field. I want to care more about you than anything else. Please help my heart to change. Help me to be intentional with the way I approach relationships but still authentic. I love you and desperately want to figure out how to live THE Cause for you. Amen.

SOAK is a devotional tool used at The Springs and NorthShore. To find more information about how to do SOAK click here.

Dare2Share Update

By Pastor Justin, March 7, 2010 9:21 pm

Hey NorthShore, great things happened at Dare2Share. We had about 75 in our group that went with us and from every student I talked to there was real life change. Students came back with a game plan to tell the students at their school about the Gospel. I am so proud of all of you. Most every student used cell phones to contact multiple friends to tell them about Jesus. A few friends actually accepted Jesus right there on the phone during our lunch time.

NorthShore, do everything you can to do to make sure your friends go to heaven with you instead of hell. In the words of atheist, Teller, from Penn and Teller, “If someone believe in an actual heaven and hell and that accepting Jesus as their savior will get them to heaven, that person must hate his friends to not tell them about it.”

Love your friends, Live THE Cause

Pastor Justin’s S.O.A.K.- “God Provides”

By Pastor Justin, January 28, 2010 7:40 pm

In our Glee series this month we have talked about being persecuted and looked as as “different”, because we believe what the bible says and live for God. This is my SOAK Journal for today on how God provides a way out of that persecution and provides comfort for when others treat Christians wrongly.

S. Scripture- Acts 5:18-19. 18 They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. 19But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out.

O. Observation- The Apostles (followers of God) because they were spreading the word of God. They were persecuted because they loved for God by doing what the Bible said. People were threatened by the message they were giving. The message of life, hope and love that God has to offer through Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins.

A. Application- here in America it is not illegal to share the story of Jesus, nor do we really have to much persecution compared to the stories in the Bible or even in other countries right now. All we have now is maybe someone making fun of us or choosing not to be our friend anymore. So without the threat of jail or being beaten, why don’t we share Jesus with more people? Why don’t I? We need to. I need to. We need to offer the love, life and hope that God offers us to everyone.

K. Konnect (Prayer) – Lord, help me to share you with others more.  Give me confidence to take the opportunities you have given me to share the story of you dieing on the cross for us with others.  Thank you for letting me live in a country that does not beat us or kill us or throw us in jail for talking about you.  I love you and I want to see more people find you.  AMEN

Extra thought: This same grace, forgiveness and love that gets us through life is available to everyone. He will save and forgive anyone no matter what you have done. All you have to do is know that Jesus died for all your sins and ask Him to be your Savior.

If you have any question about this post or if you would like prayer for anything or if you want Jesus to forgive your sins and want prayer so you can go to heaven please contact Pastor Justin

If you have a thought on today’s post please join the conversation and leave a comment!

What is “10 FOR 10″?

By Pastor Justin, January 9, 2010 3:24 am

10 FOR 10 is a NorthShore video segment that will be featured every so often. NorthShore leaders and staffers go to a students house while they are sleeping ( of course with the pre-approval of the parents) and wake that student up in a crazy manner with a high def video camera watching closely. That student then is given a certain amount of time to do whatever we say (something involving the number 10) for ten dollars. If the student does it they get 10 dollars, but if they can not do the challenge one of their family members gets to tell the camera an embarrassing story about that student for NorthShore’s viewing pleasure.
This is gunna be amazing!

Starting this Wed. there will be a 10 FOR 10 sign up sheet at the “i” table (at the entrance of the church) for both the students who would like to take the challenge to sign up and for parents who would like to sign their students up.
Students beware-if your parent signs you up or if you sign up, you will never know the time or the day that the 10 FOR 10 train will be coming for you!

Pastor Justin’s S.O.A.K- “Grace Despite Hesitation”

By Pastor Justin, January 7, 2010 6:25 pm

Grace Despite Hesitation

S. Scripture- Genesis 19:15 With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished.”

16 When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the LORD was merciful to them.
O. Observation- God, through the angels told Lot that he needed to get his family and himself out of the city they were in because God was going to destroy it. God saw that the whole place was full of people who hated God and were involved in all kinds of sin. Lot and his family were the only people God could find that loved Him. Then it goes on to say that Lot hesitated. He probably hesitated because he probably had friends and extended family there that he did not want to die. But then it says that God had so much love and grace for lot that He had the angels grab him and get him and his family out so they would not die.
A. Application- This shows me a picture of God’s huge love and grace for those of us that have accepted Jesus as our Savior. Obviously, I am suppose to obey God when He first tells me to do something, but sometimes I do not hear Him completely or my human nature does not like what He is saying. I am so glad that even when I hesitate God is still right there to help me through it. There has been plenty of times I have hesitated or just plain did not obey, but God has still either just forgiven me or pushed me harder or kept asking/telling me until I listened. Gods grace, forgiveness and love covers us that follow Him.
K. Konnect (with God and others)- Lord, thank you for this example, plus many others in the bible, that you still provide a way out of things even when we don’t listen. Please forgive me of times of not listening or hesitating. And thank you for pushing me and asking me until I listened. You are amazing and I do not deserve all the grace, forgiveness and love that you literally pour out for me.
